How is academic achievement affected when a student’s schedule is devoted to the visual & performing arts?

Research has shown that the arts lead to higher achievement in other academic areas. Additionally, academic interest is increased through an arts enriched curriculum. According to the College Entrance Examination Board, students who studied the arts for more than 4 years scored 59 points higher for verbal and 44 points higher in math on their SATs. How much time will a student spend in a visual & performing arts class?

  • If your child is in grades Kindergarten, he/she will spend 30 minutes per week for one trimester in dance.
  • If your child is in grades 1st - 5th, he/she will spend 1 hour per week for one trimester in dance.
  • If your child is in the Visual & Performing Arts Academy (grades 3-6), they will spend four sessions a week in dance for the entire school year.
